Choose when a snippet expands
Some people want the text the instant the abbreviation is done. Others never want a surprise. Both are right.

Quick answer
Pick Instantly, After space or punctuation, or When I press Tab, for every snippet or for one. Instantly suits abbreviations that start with ;; after a space suits plain words like omw; Tab means nothing ever expands unless you ask. Press Esc right after any expansion to get the abbreviation back.
Expands the moment the abbreviation is complete.
The three modes
| Mode | Expands | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Instantly | As you finish the abbreviation | Abbreviations that start with ; |
| After space or punctuation | When you finish the word; the space stays | Plain-word abbreviations like omw |
| When I press Tab | Only on Tab | Never being surprised |
Keeping it from firing by mistake
- The editor warns when an abbreviation is the end of a common word (
adrin “quadruple”) or the start of another snippet. - A
;at the start keeps an abbreviation out of real words entirely. - Esc right after an expansion puts back exactly what you typed.
Where it is in Snipora
- For every snippet: the menu bar menu’s settings button → Expand, or Settings → Expanding.
- For one snippet: open it in Edit snippets and pick its own mode next to the abbreviation.
Questions people ask
- What does the match popup do?
- While you type something that starts an abbreviation, a small list of matching snippets appears under the caret. Arrow keys move, Tab or Return expands, Esc closes it.
