Fill-in snippets, choice lists and dates
Some text is almost the same every time. A fill-in snippet asks for the part that changes and writes the rest.

Quick answer
Put {field:Name} in a snippet for a blank to fill in, {choice:Plan=Basic|Pro} for a list to pick from, and {date+14d} for a date two weeks out. When you type the abbreviation, a small form opens; Tab moves between fields and Return inserts the finished text.
Hi {field:Name}, You’re on the {choice:Plan=Basic|Pro|Team} plan. Your trial ends {date+14d}. {cursor}
Hi Camille, You’re on the Pro plan. Your trial ends Nov 4, 2026.
How a form works
Write the snippet with tokens where the text changes:
Hi {field:Name},
You’re on the {choice:Plan=Basic|Pro|Team} plan. Your trial ends {date+14d}.
{cursor}Type its abbreviation and a form opens under the caret with a field for Name and a list for Plan. Fill them in, press Return, and the finished message lands with the cursor where {cursor} was.
Every token
| Token | What it inserts |
|---|---|
{field:Name} | A blank to fill in; the same name twice fills both places |
{choice:Plan=Basic|Pro} | A list to pick from |
{date} | Today, in your Mac’s date format |
{date+3d}, {date-1w} | A date moved by days (d), weeks (w), months (m) or years (y) |
{date:next friday} | A date in words: today, tomorrow, next friday, in 2 weeks, 3 days ago |
{time} | The time now |
{clipboard}, {clipboard:2} | What you copied, or the copy before it |
{cursor} | Where the caret ends up |
{snippet:;sig} | Another snippet’s text, forms included |
{key:tab} | A key press: Tab, Return, arrows or ⌘ shortcuts |
Date words are English whatever your Mac’s language, so a snippet reads the same on every Mac. The date itself comes out in your Mac’s format.

Questions people ask

- Yes, with
{key:tab}. Snippets that press keys ask before they’re added from an import or a shared folder, since text that was literal elsewhere would act here.
